The competition between different universities and their commercial counterparts is still increasing. That is why universities are trying to boost their popularity and in order not to fall behind, they try their hand at distance education.
However, the problem is that the teachers are not aware of the essence of distance education, that is online education. They cannot imagine the way this mechanism is working; therefore they feel at a loss when it goes about distance education.
One more fact that prevents teachers from distance education is that some of them master the techniques of this method of teaching, but they do not share their knowledge with others. Besides, the problem of efficient literature search is also very acute, since it takes a lot of time and efforts for making a perfect online class with all the necessary teaching material for it.
According to Moore, there are, at least, three main constituent parts of distance education:
- Learner-content;
- Learner-instructor;
- Learner-learner.
In contrast to Moor, Peters heavily criticizes distance education and he considers that an educational process cannot be of industrial background and it requires human interaction. All in all, the question is still open and you should decide whether distance education has the right to exist in modern society or not.
